Safety is one of the main priorities of Fertile, MN drivers when searching for a new vehicle. The team here at Christian Motors knows this. However, the ratings used to rate how safe a vehicle is can be confusing. Here's an overview of the top two industry ratings and what they cover.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives ratings by stars. Five stars is the highest rating an automobile can receive. They use assessments such as crash and rollover tests to determine overall performance and durability.
The other main ratings organization is the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). This body provides their ratings in the form of one-word assessments. These criteria are poor, marginal, and good. They conduct five tests to arrive at these designations. The criteria they consider are side, seats, head restraints, small front overlap, and moderate front overlap.
